R. Kelly Taken Into Custody At Hearing Over Unpaid Child Support

R&B singer R. Kelly was taken into custody again Wednesday afternoon after a hearing on child support payments.The singer left the courtroom in handcuffs with his hands behind his back. The Cook County Sheriff’s office says he will be held in the jail.
The arrest comes 12 days after Kelly was arrested on charges of the criminal sexual abuse of four women, including three who were underage girls at the time of the abuse. Last week he was released on bond while he awaits that trial.
Kelly’s publicist, Darryll Johnson, said Kelly had been hopeful that he’d find a way to make a deal to pay part of the $161,000 he owes in child support.
“He can’t book shows, he can’t do anything. There’s been a lot of things going on in Mr. Kelly’s life, lawsuits, all the things that are happening and he just didn’t have the money,” said Johnson.
Earlier in the day, the parents of women who currently live with Kelly responded to Kelly’s interview on CBS This Morning. In that interview with Gayle King, Kelly said his relationships with Jocelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, who are both reportedly in their early 20s, is “real” and “it’s like they’re my girlfriends.”
Parents of the two women have expressed concern for them. Asked what kind of love keeps women from contacting their families, Kelly lashed out and implied the parents had sold their daughters.
“What kind of father, what kind of mother, will sell their daughter to a man?” Kelly asked. “How come it was okay to see them, until they wasn’t getting no money from it?”
The parents of Jocelyn Savage held a a press conference to respond to Kelly’s statements on Wednesday morning.
“At no point have the Savages requested any money from Mr. Robert Sylvester Kelly. They have never received any money from Mr. Robert Sylvester Kelly. They don’t want any money from Mr. Robert Sylvester Kelly,” said Gerald A. Griggs, a lawyer for the parents.
A lawyer who says he represents the parents of Azriel Clary also released a statement on their behalf: “We never received a penny from R. Kelly. We have never asked R. Kelly for money. And we never ‘sold’ our daughter to him or anyone else. R. Kelly is a desperate liar and serial abuser of young girls who should die in prison. All of the victims and parents cannot be lying.”
