Who out there is familiar with the Frisian language? Honestly I’d never heard of it until I received the latest album from Dutch artist Nynke Laverman. The language comes from Frisia which is located in the northern part of the Netherlands.

The language is a cross between Dutch and English. Nynke has always had a love affair with Latin and  Mediterranean music and so her sound leans heavily on flamenco and the Portuguese music fado, but it also has the feel of the vast landscape and big sky that is her home country. This week we hear a track from Nynke’s new album Alter.

 Also some new sounds by Chicago trumpeter Rob Mazurek.

And once again we dip into the wacky wonderful sounds of Tamil composer Ilaiyaraaja. Of course, what would a night of Radio M be without-you guessed it- Colombian cumbia.
