Iraqis suffered wide spread human rights atrocities under Saddam Hussein and the
U.S. occupation. Since many of these atrocities were committed by the government, victims have not had a chance to tell their stories to the world.
DePaul University‘s
College of
Law is trying to change that. Since 2005, they have collected almost 9,000 testimonies on human rights abuses from Iraqis.
Daniel Rothenberg is the Managing Director of International Projects at the International Human Rights Law Institute in
DePaul University‘s
College of
Law. Daniel directs DePaul’s testimony collection projects in
Iraq, known as the Iraq History Project and the Current Violations in Iraq Project. Together, the projects represent one the largest independent human rights data collection and analysis projects in the world.
