Two suicides inside Illinois’ juvenile prisons shined a light on how the state handles the mental health needs of incarcerated kids. So almost a year ago, the Department of Juvenile Justice commissioned a major investigation into the policies and practices around behavioral health. An independent team assembled by the MacArthur Foundation visited the state’s 8 youth prisons. Their long-awaited report is out today.
