Riot Fest Neighbor: ‘It’s Decent, Quiet, Everybody Enjoys The Music’

Around noon, Manuel Castillo was sipping from a can of Icehouse beer, chatting with neighbors, watching a steady trickle of concert-goers walk past his house on California Avenue, across from the park, about a block from the entrance. 

He’s lived there all his life — 45 years — and he says Riot Fest has become a fine neighbor. 

“It’s decent, quiet,” he says. “Everybody enjoys the music.” 

He says he’ll go hear some music himself later. Residents, he believes, get free tickets; last year he wandered over to hear Snoop Dogg.
