By Fyodor SakhnovskiInitially started as an art project in Germany in mid-80’s, KMFDM explored the fusion of heavy metal guitars and dance beats, becoming recognized as pioneers in heavy electronic music.
In the 1990’s, the band spent several years living in Chicago and working with the influential Wax Trax Records along such acts as My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and Ministry. This year marks the release of KMFDM’s 17th album “WTF?!”
Vocalo’s MusicVox producer Fyodor Sakhnovski spoke with FMFDM’s front man Sascha Konietzko before their show in Chicago.
They discussed the band’s beginnings, their new record, what prompted their move from Germany to Chicago and whether their critical view of commercialism and consumerism conflicts with licensing their music to films and video games.
