After hearing thoughts from local leaders, politicians and patrons of the arts in tribute to Chicago’s former first lady Maggie Daley, Eight Forty-Eight turned to two people who knew her and her family well to learn more about Mrs. Daley. WBEZ blogger Lee Bey served as deputy chief of staff to Mayor Daley; he and Mrs. Daley shared a passion for Chicago architecture and historic preservation. Bey writes about and photographs architecture for WBEZ and is the executive director of the Chicago Central Area Committee. And Avis LaVelle served as Mayor Daley’s press secretary before she became a board member with the After School Matters program. She is also president and chief executive officer of A. LaVelle Consulting Services.
