Alderman Gene Schulter of the 47th Ward won’t be seeking reelection as alderman.

In a statement from Schulter’s office, the alderman says he’s dropping out because he’s submitted an application to serve on the Cook County Board of Review. That panel hears property tax appeals.

Schulter states, “Over the past decade, I’ve become passionate about working with my neighbors to support a fair and equitable property tax…. As a candidate for Commissioner to serve on the Cook County Board of Review, I believe there is much more to be done to support fair property taxes for all Chicagoans.”

Four candidates remain on the ballot for the 47th Ward. That includes Matt Reichel, Ameya Pawar, Tom O’Donnell and Tom Jacks.

Schulter is the 11th alderman to recently decide to resign or not run for reelection.
