Today, the City Room has received two calls about Scott Lee Cohen. We are trying to get him for an interview, but the party-line is that he isn’t doing formal interviews tonight. But the office did say we could go to Vertigo at the Dana Hotel and catch him there for comment. Um, okay? Then, in a separate anonymous call to the newsroom, somebody saying they were a “friend of the family” also told us that Cohen would be…hanging out at the Vertigo at the Dana Hotel. So when you see shots of Cohen on the 10pm news tonight, lounging on a purple high-back couch with a $25 Mojito, that’s why. But my question is, what’s the angle here? Why is his press office and tips to the newsroom telling us where he is partying tonight? Does he have some sort of vested interest in the Vertigo at the Dana Hotel? Is he working on image control, showing he not only is past his dark years, but he no longer is slumming it at Bucktown dive bars? I’m intrigued. I might even show up. Damn, Cohen (and the Vertigo at the Dana Hotel) wins…again!
