Some Chicago suburbs have canceled firework displays tonight due to heat and dry weather.

Residents won’t see bombs bursting in air in Mundelein, Fox River Grove, Cary or Carol Stream. They’re among suburbs that have canceled shows tonight. Carol Stream also nixed its parade, citing public safety concerns related to heat, dry conditions, power outages and recent storm damage.

Plainfield canceled its fireworks show and is also cracking down on illegal fireworks. A police sergeant there said four officers will be looking up in the sky and visiting backyards to give violators $500 tickets.

Still, dozens of suburban fireworks shows will go on, and if you’re in the city, well: “The fireworks at Navy are the only official fireworks in Chicago, yes,” said Navy Pier spokesman Nick Shields. He expects 100,000 people to come down for the 15-minute display.

But that’s not a city-sponsored show. This is the second year in a row that tight city budgets have snuffed out fireworks in Chicago.
