Severe weather in effect for Chicago and surrounding areas
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for southeast Cook, east central Will, and northern Lake County in Indiana.
A rotation is southwest of Frankfort and is moving NE at 60 miles per hour.
A number of Midwestern states are also facing the threat of high risk severe thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service says parts of Illinois, Indiana, southern Michigan and western Ohio are at the greatest risk of seeing tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds today.
The agency says strong winds and atmospheric instability will sweep across the central Plains during the day before pushing into the Mid-Atlantic states and the Northeast by evening.
Fans heading to today's Bears-Ravens game in Chicago have been evacuated due to the severe weather.
Forecasters say strong storms are rare this late in the year because there usually isn't enough heat from the sun to sustain the thunderstorms, but temperatures today are expected to reach into the 60s and 70s.
