Many people were home from work Friday enjoying a turkey sandwich or tossing around the football. Maybe they took a stab at reading those issues of The New Yorker that had been piling up on the coffee table.

But while flipped through its pages, hopefully they didn’t forget the cartoons, the work of Pat Byrnes, a cartoonist at the magazine.

Byrnes might be a familiar name to political folk as well; he is married to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

Elysabeth Alfano caught up with Byrnes recently to learn more about his path to the funny pages and to talk more about his new App, Smurks. Alfano is executive producer and host of Fear No Art Chicago.
