Chicago is under a winter weather advisory starting at noon Friday until 9 p.m. One to three inches of snow accumulation is expected with wind gusts up to 30 mph.

Meteorologist Richard Castro said the conditions could make for very slick roadways.

“Temperatures by the rush hour will be coming down through the twenties so any snow still falling at that time will be able to stick to road surfaces,” Castro said.

Lake-effect snow for Northwest Indiana is expected to be heavy. Porter and Lake counties could see up to a foot of snow between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Castro said the arctic front moving across Lake Michigan could also bring lightning and thunder.

After the snow, a frigid weekend is in store. Saturday will see highs around 20 degrees but the wind chill will be in the single digits. In the early morning, the wind chill may dip below zero. No additional snow is in the forecast until next week.
