The Chicago White Sox won their home opener 3-2 against division rival Detroit Tigers on Friday.

It was the first game new manager Robin Ventura has managed at U.S. Cellular Field, and it seems like fans are willing to give him a shot.

Rich Jacobson, sitting on the patio of a Bridgeport restaurant, said he’s been to every home opener since the Sox moved into their current park in 1991. His expectations for 2012 are pretty low.

“Quite frankly, if they would wind up .500, I’d be happy for this year,” Jacobson said before Friday’s game.

We’ll see. For now, Jacobson is happy with the rookie manager.

“I think [Ventura will] do a good job. I’m glad to see Ozzie gone,” the Palos Heights resident said.

So is Richardson’s wife Merline.

“I’m tired of my husband complaining about him,” she said.

A couple tables over, Mark Thomas of Alsip wished Ozzie Guillen still led the team.

“I think Ozzie wishes he was back here now,” Thomas said. “Instead of being down in the controversy he’s in right now.”

Guillen’s got three games left on his suspension from the Florida Marlins, over comments he made about Fidel Castro.
