In October, the County Board adopted Chicago’s plan to let workers earn up to five sick days a year and $13 an hour by 2020. While suburban leaders in Barrington, Palatine and Elgin said they will opt out of the new worker rules, a Cook County commissioner said doing so is unconstitutional. The new rules do not go into effect until July.
