Sunday marks the 108th anniversary of the birth of Duke Ellington.

While Ellington often said his music documented the black American experience, he was no stranger to the musical experiences of cultures from other parts of the globe.

During his long career, Ellington would put his own spin on the sounds and rhythms of places such as South America, the Far East and Africa.
