In Japan, not much is happening between the sheets in many marriages. And it’s not necessarily that different for single people, either.

According to a recent government survey on attitudes toward sex and marriage, one in four unmarried Japanese men has never ever had sex. Twenty five percent of women between 35 and 39 have also never had sex.

Chie Ohlsson is originally from Kobe, Japan but moved to the U.S. in 1999. She’s married to an American but makes frequent trips back to Japan for her marketing job. Chie tells Worldview why the government’s findings don’t really surprise her.
