Building Museums as Centers of Civic Engagement is a Chicago Cultural Alliance program composed of a series of community and cross-cultural events in which Chicagoans are invited to discuss topics that matter to our communities. These topics are related to themes such as immigration, health, identity, youth, or environment. “We’re Still Here: Changing Definitions of Identity in Chicago” is a discussion that deals with what identity means and how it is formed within and across communities. How do different parts of an immigrant community sense their ethnic identity? How do children form their ethnic identity within a multi-cultural environment? What positive and negative repercussions are there for losing your identity and fitting in?
