Talking Turkey (The Country, That Is): Introduction to the Dining Culture of the Ottoman Empire
Listen in to this armchair culinary tour of the sixteenth-century Ottoman Empire, when one of the greatest rulers in history, Suleyman the Magnificent, ruled from the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. Channon Mondoux reveals the palace’s ancient recipes and kitchen setup. Ms. Mondoux also narrates how an elaborate palace dinner would have been presented at the palace.
A native of Canada, Ms. Mondoux studies historical cuisine and produces lavish historical banquets across Canada and the U.S. She is the founder of Renaissance Cuisine, a personal chef service, and has written many freelance food articles. Her latest work, Celebration at the Sarayi, is an e-cookbook featuring recipes from sixteenth century Istanbul.
