Dr. Oyeronke Oyewumi is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Stony Brook University. Her areas of specialization include the sociology of gender, race, culture and knowledge, social inequalities, transnational feminist studies, post-colonial studies and (pan) African studies. She has published the following books: African Gender Studies Reader; African Women and Feminism: Reflecting on the Politics of Sisterhood; and Invention of Women: Making an African Sense of Western Gender Discourses. Another book, Gender Epistemologies in Africa: Gendering Traditions, Spaces, Social Identities and Institutions is in press. Dr. Oyewumi has published numerous articles and presented at conferences internationally.
