Attila Ambrus is a former hockey player for the Hungarian National team.

Unable to make a living, or to get any financial help in the post-Soviet area, Ambrus decides to take his revenge out on the government by robbing banks and travel agencies.

His exploits gave him folk hero status, and he becomes sort of a modern-day Robin Hood.

Author Julian Rubinstein tells the tale in his book Ballad of the Whiskey Robber.

An audio CD comes with the book, featuring readings by the likes of Eric Bogosian and Tommy Ramone, and original songs that tell stories of the heists, escapes and final capture of the Whiskey Robber.
