Anyone out and about in Chicago’s Loop today quickly found themselves‚  immersed in sea of sports fans wearing a rainbow of jerseys.‚  There were jerseys for the Cubs, the Sox, Brazil, Arsenal, Mexico, Chelsea, Argentina, and of course, the Blackhawks, the Blackhawks, and even more Blackhawks. Our Governor, Hawk Fan Wading through this “United Colors of Benetton” fandom in downtown Chicago today,‚  I couldn’t help but wonder “Could this be the single biggest day in Chicago sports history?” I’m not talking about one championship versus another or the importance of one sport versus another.‚  I’m talking about pound-for-pound, sport-for-sport, fan-for-fan, is there a single day that has held more excitement for more fans of more sports than today? On that measure, it’s hard to think of one. Item:‚  The Chicago Blackhawks hold a massive parade and rally in the Loop celebrating their first Stanley Cup victory in nearly 5 decades.‚  Does it get any bigger for Blackhawks fans? Item:‚  The Cubs and the White Sox begin‚  Round I of the “Crosstown Classic” today at Wrigley Field.‚  Always a HUGE day for baseball fans in the Windy City - and given the look of both teams so far, this may prove to be the only rivalry with stakes this year. Item: ‚  The world’s truly global game kicks off the 2010 World Cup kicks in South Africa - a sports event as big as any on the planet and one followed by hundreds of thousands of globally minded and intensely loyal Chicagoans. That’s my vote:‚  Today - Friday, June 11th - as the single biggest day ever for Chicago’s millions of sports fans. What’s yours?
