The Dutch avant punk band the Ex has been around since the late 1970s. The band always had an affinity for folk traditions from around the world and about 15 years ago, the began to get into Ethiopian music. Their 2006 release Moa Anbessa features Ethiopian saxophone legend Getachew Merkuria, who’s been playing with the band on and off since 2004.

This past summer, Merkuria joined the Ex on their North American tour which stoppped in Chicago for two memorable performances. Radio M was rolling tape at the band’s Logan Square Auditorium show and tonight we bring you the Ex, From the Stage.
