The history of reform in Islam dates back centuries, and the concept of reform is actually a central tenant of the Islamic faith. But some may misunderstand the roots of Muslim reform. Today we begin a week-long series called “Islamic Reform: Towards a Global Reformation Movement.”

John Esposito is Professor of Islamic Studies at Georgetown University and Founding Director of the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. His latest book is called The Future of Islam. We talk about the history of reform in Islam and the reformers making their mark in Muslim societies today.
