Chicago’s Southside artistic community has struggled with its “invisibility”: internationally recognized artists from the Southside often have to fight to make their mark in their own city. This program explores the social and cultural history of this struggle, and examines the creators and institutions on the Southside that are refuting the negative stereotypes attached to their community.

Panelists include: Andre Guichard, artist and owner of Gallery Guichard; Joyce Owens, Chicago State faculty in art and design; Lowell Thompson, artist and writer; Natalie Moore, reporter for Chicago Public Radio; and Patrick Rivers, School of the Art Institute of Chicago faculty in visual and critical studies.

Recorded Thursday, March 26, 2009 at The Art Institute of Chicago.
