The Night Kite Revival
Friends, it’s Revival time again! On tour under the brand new moniker, the Night Kite Revival! Anis Mojgani (2-time Individual National Poetry Slam Champion), Derrick Brown (invited to open for the Flaming Lips and Cold War Kids) and Buddy Wakefield (2-time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion) bring to you the planet’s ultimate spoken word theatre experience! This special Chicago show features local performance poet and organizer Robbie Q. Telfer and students from Young Chicago Authors.
Born to inspire, these poetic acrobats have been engaging international audiences for over a decade from San Quentin State Penitentiary and House of Blues all the way to HBO and the Tonight Show. Their individual successes are many but together they have struck an undeniable power chord with North American audiences for the past three years. Unpack that trapeze and tight-wire, take off your seatbelt and climb up. This year’s Revival is their biggest show ever!
Buddy Wakefield, Anis Mojgani and Derrick Brown have spent the past few years collecting themselves with the top performance poets on the globe, banding together to create “a disarming verbal circus successfully reviving, redeeming and releasing its audiences from the heaviness of lives caught in holding patterns.” No other line-up is as ambitious or well rounded with such a seasoned cast of road poets incorporating gripping, uplifting music, engaging group work and a busload of questionable dance moves.
Expect wide-open eyes, cannonball surprises and the belly laughs returned to your balloon animal faces. With uproarious crowd participation, unwavering honesty, human condition truth activism and respect for the lives we lead, the Night Kite Revival charges the hearts of all they meet.
“The performance that Anis, Derrick and Buddy put on at our festival last year was truly phenomenal. The energy and skill of their poetry overwhelmed the room, and even now, months and months later, people still raving about it. We filled a 550-seat auditorium to standing room only, and they did not leave disappointed. The Revival is the real thing.” - Greg Netzer, Executive Director, Wordstock Literary Festival
