Join us on Jane Addams Day to reflect on the Occupy moment and what it means for the future.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has captured the imagination of people around the globe. A new language of hope, possibility, and change has been introduced into American politics even as encampments have been shut down. Important questions have been raised about how we can reinvent a more equitable and fair system globally and locally.

Featured panelists on this topic include: Adam Green (moderator), historian and author of Selling the Race: Culture and Community in Black Chicago; Vijay Prashad, author of The Darker Nations: A People’s History of the Third World and commentator on world affairs; Bernardine Dohrn, immediate past director and founder of the Children and Family Justice Center; Nathan Brown, scholar activist at UC Davis; and Amisha Patel, community organizer and executive director of Grassroots Collaborative.

This event will also feature performances by poets Kevin Coval and FM Supreme. Also, perspectives on the Occupy movement from local respondents including representatives from the Immigrant Youth Justice League, Occupy the Hood, and Occupy Chicago. We will also live stream via skype to Occupy Wall Street and get a live report.
