The role politics plays in inclement weather
By most accounts Chicago is in for a doozy of a snowstorm starting sometime later Tuesday. Residents have a pretty good idea what a blizzard will do to the streets, sidewalks and commute times. But what about how weather can affect politics? After all, myth has it that it was the 1979 blizzard that brought down then Mayor Michael Bilandic. To find out what happens when politics and weather collide Eight Forty-Eight host Alison Cuddy talked to John R. Schmidt. Schmidt is a historian who writes the This Date In Chicago History blog for Chicago Now. Before that he taught at Chicago Public Schools for more than 30 years.
