This year, the numbers are aligned for The Ultimate Pi Day on 3.14.15!

“Pi” is defined as the number 3.1415926.

“Pie” is defined as either a pastry filled with fruit or cream-based confectionary that delights the sweet tooth OR round baked dough with tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings - best served Chicago-style!

Join WBEZ 91.5 and the Adler Planetarium as we celebrate both Pi and Pie on Saturday, March 14, 2015.  Just like Pi, the fun goes on, and on, and on! There will be two events held at the Adler Planetarium, 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, on Chicago’s Museum Campus. The family-friendly daytime event is from 12 – 4 p.m.  The evening 21+ event is from 6 – 10 p.m.

Daytime Pi Day activities, which are FREE to all visitors with paid museum admission, include a Pie Eating Contest, a Parachuting Pies challenge and Pie in the Sky solar observing (weather permitting).  Don’t miss the Nerd Confessional Booth staffed by the ladies of the WBEZ’s Nerdette Podcast, a lecture on Pi and Einstein by Adler Astronomer Shane Larson, Ph.D, and much more.

From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., guests 21 and older can enjoy the best of The Ultimate Pi Day after museum hours with cash bars, music from Vocalo’s DJ Collective, a Nerdette panel discussion and Pi Day activities. Tickets are $25 and include sky dome shows and museum access.

Pi Day wouldn’t be complete without, you guessed it – pie!  Celebrated Chicago pastry and pizza vendors including Bang Bang Pie Shop, Hoosier Mama Pies and Piece Pizza will be onsite – day and night – to offer guests samples of the best Chicago has to offer.
