Monday, July 30

Breakfast club with the Race: Out Loud Remote Broadcast at Maxfield’s Family Restaurant & Pancake House in Lombard. “Join Eight Forty-Eight…for a live broadcast addressing life and diversity in Chicago’s Western suburbs. We’ll talk with residents and village officials about what attracts residents to the area. We’ll also find out how the area has changed over the past two decades and what challenges related to diversity the community currently faces today. Stop by between 9-10 a.m. to get in on the action!” Admission FREE, food and drink additional.

Tuesday, July 31

Donate at A Night for Ashley — Pizza and Beer Fundraiser at Letizia’s Fiore. MANA Food Bar line cook Ashley Pruneau was attacked in her home by an unknown male with a hammer. “100 percent [goes] to Ashley’s fund for her recovery, medical bills etc. Letizia’s Fiore will provide wood-fired pizzas, beer, and vino for all attendees. Silent auction and more.” Former co-workers set up this fundraising night, while current co-workers have set up this fundraising page. Admission $15 suggested donation.

Rock lobsters at WXRT’s and Supreme Lobster’s Rockin’ Lobster Bash at Red Door. “This special tasting event will feature lobster dishes from [Red Door chef Troy] Graves and an incredibly impressive array of Chicago’s leading chefs” including Nightwood’s Jason Vincent, The Bedford’s Mark Steuer, Hot Chocolate’s Mindy Segal, The Trenchemen’s Mike Sheerin and Patrick Sheerin, Tavernita’s Ryan Poli, Big Jones’ Paul Fehribach, and The Gage and Henri’s Dirk Flanigan” plus signature cocktails, wine, and beer. Admission $60.

Wednesday, August 1

Meet your encased meats maker at Veggie Bingo at The Hideout, with this week’s special guest caller Hot Doug, aka Doug Sohn, benefitting the Ruby Garden.” Eat free hot dogs donated by Doug’s while bingoing for a grand prize of fresh produce from Irv & Shelly’s Fresh Picks. Admission FREE, $2 per bingo card, $5 for three.

Thursday, August 2

Bid on dinner with WBEZ’s own Worldview host Jerome McDonnell at Art for Peace, a happy hour fundraiser at 694 Wine & Spirits for Pasfarda Arts & Cultural Exchange. “Pasfarda, literally meaning the day after tomorrow, is at least a double entendre on Iranian culture’s orientation toward [its] future as well its propensity for procrastination…Pasfarda Arts & Cultural Exchange effectively strengthens cultural understanding between Iranians and Americans to create innovative alliances, coalitions and affiliations.” Admission $40 in advance, $50 at door.

Friday, August 3

Tap in to The Interview Show hosted by former WBEZ blogger Mark Bazer back at The Hideout with guests including Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn and Lagunitas Brewing Company founder/owner Tony Magee. Magee’s opening a Lagunitas taproom in Chicago this November, while building what will be the largest brewery in the city around it. Admission $8.

Saturday, August 4

Twirl The Early History of Pasta: Post-Modern Myth and Medieval Reality at Kendall Collage, hosted by the Chicago Foodways Roundtable. “In this talk, Anthony F. Buccini [aka LTHForum.com‘s esteemed Antonius] demonstrates that the interpretation of the evidence has been superficial and gravely flawed, and he proposes an account of the late medieval diffusion of pasta based on a new interpretation of the textual and linguistic evidence in full harmony with the broader socio-economic history of the medieval western Mediterranean.” This event will be recorded for WBEZ’s Chicago Amplified. Admission $3, FREE for Kendall students and staff.

Get edgy at Edge Fest in Edgewater. The fest “will feature BACON…Bacon may be eaten smoked, boiled, fried, baked, or grilled. Are you ready to enjoy some delicious bacon? Cheeseburgers with bacon, BLT sandwiches, bacon bits on your cheese fries…and much more! Remember…Edge Fest can be ordered with ‘a Side of Bacon’ [and] will benefit the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce…[whose] mission is to create and support a thriving business environment, contributing to a vibrant Edgewater community.” Admission $5 suggested donation.
