According to Commonwealth Edison, 60,000 Chicago-area customers will be without power until at least Friday evening.

ComEd spokeswoman Tabrina Davis estimates 90 percent of residents affected by Tuesday’s storm should have their power restored by midnight Thursday. Yet there are many customers who will still be waiting in the dark.

“It is a massive restoration effort — a lot of tree damage, downed power lines utility poles, etc and the damage is quite extensive in certain areas, Davis said. “So we have all of our resources that we can dedicated to this effort but it will take some time.”

Davis said Tuesday’s storm knocked out power for over 430,000 residents.
