By Susie AnMonday is the deadline to apply to be Chicago’s top cop.
The Chicago Police Board is looking to make the nationwide search for a new police superintendent a quick process. The Board will filter through the applications and bring three finalists to the top for the mayor to review.
The new superintendent will report directly to the mayor. In this case, it’ll be up to Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel to make the pick. Emanuel has said he wants a new superintendent in place by his first day in office. He’s scheduled to be sworn in May 16.
Former chief Jody Weis left office last month after it was clear his contract would not be renewed. Retired officer Terry Hillard, who was once the city’s top cop, is filling in during the interim.
Potential police superintendents have until 5 p.m. apply for the job.
