In our first full year operating under the name Chicago Public Media we produced a lot of content besides radio reports. Obviously our bloggers are a major part of that, but the area furthest from our natural comfort zone is video.

It’s like going from creating “theater of the mind” to just creating “theater.”

We’ve taken an experimental approach to our production, trying to add value and avoid merely duplicating the work of our colleagues at Chicago area TV stations.

Looking over our top videos of the year, that sense of freedom is evident in the broad range of work that found a large audience. Out of 850,000 plays in 2011, these were our ten most popular videos.
