Tracy Baim, veteran Chicago gay reporter, discusses her new book, Obama and the Gays: A Political Marriage. Baim’s new book takes an in-depth look at President Obama’s record on gay issues, from his early political career through his current time in the White House.

As a state senate candidate in Illinois in 1996, Barack Obama said he favored gay marriage. As president, he is opposed to gay marriage but favors instead civil unions. This new book by veteran Chicago gay reporter Tracy Baim takes an in-depth look back at Obama’s record on gay issues through his state and federal elections and terms in office. This includes the first year and a half of his time in the White House.

Obama and the Gays includes interviews with many of Obama’s Chicago and national gay supporters, as well as guest columns by prominent gay community activists, bloggers and reporters.
