Sharon McCray-Smith’s commute to work was anything but routine Tuesday morning. McCray-Smith said she dropped off her bags at the office then joined a group of protesters gathered across the street from Trump Tower in downtown Chicago.

“Our bodies are our own,” she said. “And unless we give consent, nobody should be touching us, grabbing us or disrespecting us.”

The protest was sparked by controversial comments Donald Trump made in 2005. In a tape leaked to the Washington Post, the Republican presidential candidate is heard making lewd remarks about women before an appearance on “Access Hollywood.” He said his fame allowed him to “do anything to women.”

Trump has since apologized and dismissed his remarks as “locker room talk.”

But the scores of protesters outside Trump Tower were not buying it, and held signs playing off some of the comments caught on the tape.

More than 100 protesters had planned to form a human chain around Trump Tower, but moved across the street when they saw barricades around the skyscraper.

About six Trump supporters showed up to defend their candidate. They said he has been the victim of a smear campaign.
