Eight thousand Chicago charter school students may be out of school Wednesday if teachers at one of the largest charter networks in the city go on strike.

Teachers at the 15 schools in the UNO Charter School Network have been negotiating with management for more than seven months.

Some of the key sticking points include how much money teachers contribute to their pensions and what support staff are paid.

If teachers walk out Wednesday, it would be the country’s first teachers’ strike at a charter school since they were created in the 1990s.

The deadline to reach an agreement is midnight Tuesday.
