The University of Illinois’ Board of Trustees is set to hold an emergency closed-door meeting in Chicago on Monday, a week after a group of faculty members called for President Michael Hogan’s resignation.

According to U of I spokesman Tom Hardy, the meeting will deal with employment-related matters. Hardy said he doesn’t expect any action to come from the discussion.

“It came up over the weekend that would be an opportunity for some of the trustees to be able to get together and talk about a few things,” Hardy said. “But once you get more than three trustees in a room, you have to make sure that you comply with the Open Meetings Act and declare it as a board meeting.”

According to state law, public bodies must allow at least 48 hours notice before holding meetings, unless there is a “bona fide emergency.” The U of I board meeting was announced late Sunday night, and will be held on the university’s Chicago campus.

Last week, 130 high-profile faculty members wrote a letter to the board, saying they had “no-confidence” in President Hogan, following an email scandal. An outside investigation found anonymous emails on enrollment policy were likely sent from Hogan’s chief of staff, Lisa Troyer. Troyer has since resigned, and denied writing the emails.

The board of trustees will meet for their regularly scheduled quarterly meeting on March 15 at the Urbana campus.
