Unedited audio from a hearing of the Chicago City Council’s Human Relations Committee. The committee passes a resolution to denounce the University of Chicago regarding its stance on Sudan divestment.

Some student groups and faculty had asked the university to divest from companies that do business with the Sudanese government because of the war conducted there. The university will not divest, citing a decades-old policy of not embroiling its investment portfolio in political matters.

Speakers include: Aldermen Dowell and Balcer, Professor Harold Pollock, Professor Bruce Lincoln, Jamie Kalven, and the university’s vice president of communications Julie Peterson.
