Our reporter Mike Puente is waiting patiently for President Obama. Here’s a quick dispatch:
Air Force One landed at the South Bend Airport about 9:30 am Chicago time so it’s just a matter of time before he arrives (Elkhart is in the Eastern Time Zone). Elkhart’s about 20 minutes east of South Bend and about two hours east of Chicago.
I am at Concord High School in Elkart with a whole bunch of other media and residents. We’re inside the gym awaiting the President’s arrival.
Elkhart’s unemployment rate has gone way up over the last few months with a ton of layoffs in manufacturing. The area is know for making RVs.
The President wants to push his $900 billion stimulus plan to Middle Americans.
Well, the wait is almost over. The TV lights are on. Now, we just need the main guy to arrive.
