Vocalo Presents: Music & Stories…LIVE!

WBEZ brings you fact-based news and information. Sign up for our newsletters to stay up to date on the stories that matter.

Join us for an all-ages evening of stories, good music, and conversation, featuring stories from some of the city’s best storytellers, local writers, starving artists, and community members.

Hosted by Luis Antonio Perez with music by Ayana Contreras, both of Vocalo 90.7FM (CHI) / 89.5FM (NWI)

Our March theme is CRIME DOESN’T PAY and features retired Chicago homicide detective turned storyteller Jim Padar and programmer Erica Dresibach.

  • Jim Padar is a lifelong Chicagoan and a retired Chicago Police homicide detective. He is a four time winner of The Moth StorySlams. Jim recently coauthored a book with his son Jay, currently a Chicago Police sergeant, titled “On Being a Cop.”
  • Erica Dreisbach is an artist, writer, and programmer in Chicago. She doesn’t make meaningful distinctions between art, writing, and coding.ericaricardo.com.

FORMAT:

Featured Storytellers are invited to share their stories, after which we’ll take a short musical break courtesy of Ayana Contreras host of Vocalo’s Reclaimed Soul.

After the features, members of the crowd take the stage for an OPEN MIC. The best stories will be featured on Vocalo!

Bring your favorite stories to share…otherwise just come to listen, chill, and groove.

OPEN MIC RULES:

You and the microphone with an awesome TRUE story. No music acts, no poetry, ONLY STORIES.

6 MINUTE LIMIT.

Take advantage of your chance to be heard on the radio.

*NOTE: The event will be recorded for broadcast on Vocalo Radio 90.7 FM/89.5 FM WBEW and 91.5 FM WBEZ*
