Warm Up Brings Shooting Outbreak in Chicago
There have been at least 25 shootings since temperatures began to rise earlier this week, according to a Chicago Police Web site. Thirteen people were shot in a span of just three hours early Friday morning.
Tio Hardiman is the Director of CeaseFire Illinois, an anti-violence group.
HARDIMAN: It's not really about the weather. See, violence is in the mind of the people already. These are like, issues, that - probably a lot the violence in Chicago is interpersonal violence. People get into it for the ... pettiest reasons.
Hardiman says his group will be stepping up patrols in areas where violence is likely to break out, and he's urging Chicago Police to do the same.
Police records show last spring saw a similar jump in violence once the weather began to warm up.
