By Eight Forty-EightEvery Thursday in February, WBEZ music lovers Tony Sarabia and Richard Steele play some of their favorite rarities from the African-American catalog. Last week’s highlights included James Brown singing in Spanish and Morgan Freeman on the kids show The Electric Company.
In the third installation, they kept the surprises coming. Steele kicked it off with a Billie Holiday dance remix. It came from a record with four different version dance versions of “God Bless the Child;” Steele was kind enough to play just one.
Richard’s Picks:
1. “God Bless the Child” (Dance Remix by Fred Coury), Billie Holiday
2. “3-Way Phone Call,” R. Kelly
3. “So Little Time (So Much To Do),” Louis Armstrong
Tony’s Picks:
1. “Hard Times,” Baby Huey and the Baby Sitters
2. “I’m On My Way,” Mahalia Jackson
3. “Bummer in the Summer,” Love
