Early Wednesday morning, signs were posted at the Chicago Board of Trade Building to a series of windows that appear to be a flip rebuke to the nascent “Occupy Chicago” protesters camped outside: “WE ARE THE 1%.”

The message was a clear jab at the protesters who have occupied the corner of Jackson Boulevard and LaSalle Street for over a week, demonstrating in solidarity with the New York movement “Occupy Wall Street.” Both are generally against corporate greed.

The photos first surfaced last night on Occupy Chicago’s Facebook page, which was created Sept. 22. The group has since been camped out in modest numbers in front of the Chicago Federal Reserve Building on LaSalle Street.

The message was crafted to be a knock at the group’s signs and fliers, which carried the message “WE ARE THE 99%” – a reference to President Barack Obama’s language regarding wealth disparity in the U.S.

The Chicago Board of Trade Building houses many tenants.  The most prominent of which is the CME Group, which owns and operates derivatives and future exchanges. 

“There were some signs posted by a tenant of 141 W. Jackson, not by CME Group,” said Laurie Bischel, a spokesperson for CME Group.

Comment from the Chicago Board of Trade Building, which according to their website is managed by C-B-T Corporation, was not immediately available.

The signs, as of Wednesday afternoon were no longer there.
