What is the History of American Democracy?

The Museum is pleased to debut an annual series that explores the forces that shape us as citizens of a democratic society. The 2007 series focuses on what it means to be an American and challenges assumptions about democracy, freedom, and civil rights.  Sean Wilentz of Princeton University traces the development of democratic principles in the United States through exploring the political, economic, and social forces that have defined its evolution.
Recorded Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Chicago History Museum.
