Bike the DriveI have a confession. I am one of those people who drives to work every day. And no, I don’t carpool. Occasionally, I will give a ride home to a co-worker, but I don’t think that counts. Maybe it is all the saturation in the media these days about everyone and everything “going green”, or maybe it is the fact that it cost me about $50 to fill up my gas tank this week, but I am at a point where I feel like I need to change something. The CTA? I am not a fan of the El. I don’t like getting tossed around, and being underground trapped in a sardine can gives me the creeps. The bus is an option I am leaning towards, but as an American, I want to leave when I want to leave and get somewhere on my schedule. *sigh* I have no trace of my Great-Grandmother’s Canadian heritage. That leaves one choice: my bicycle I have decided that I am going to try to ride my bike to work one day a week and if all goes well, up it to two or even three. I live in Albany Park so it is about 9 miles from home to Navy Pier. I am a nerd and I love data - so as an extra incentive, I am going to use Map My Ride which is a totally great website that offers info on other people’s routes, a calories burned calculator and distance finder among other neat-o fact loggers. Check my first route out here: OK, Monday I am on the bike followed by a full report here. Anyone else give up the car for their bike lately?
