The whistleblower that triggered an investigation into former Illinois Governor George Ryan says she hopes people can put their trust in the government again.

Tammy Raynor is with the Secretary of State’s Inspector General’s Office.

She says she’s happy with the guilty verdict.

Raynor says, ""I had feared that if there weren’t convictions that people might think it was just politics as usual.""

She adds, ""And so now that this saga has ended wtih a conviction I think it’ll be more emphatic and hopefully it will be a deterrent and things will change as far as politics go in this state.""

Raynor reported to her supervisors in the early 1990s that some applicants were paying bribes to obtain a truck driver’s license.

This charge ultimately led to yesterday’s conviction of Governor Ryan.“
