Members of the Chicago Board of Education are considering a longer school day for the 2011-2012 school year. That would be a big move, especially for schools without full-day kindergarten programs. Other big cities like Los Angeles and New York City offer full-day kindergarten to all students, but Chicago kindergarteners spend varying amounts of time in the classroom. The majority of schools offer full-day kindergarten but others follow half-day programs.
