As part of the Chicago Flamenco Festival 2012, two acclaimed Flamenco artists from Spain will perform, as an acoustic duo, the debut concert of their soon-to-be-released record, BLACK & Gypsy (March 2012).

Diego and Raimundo are brothers born into a gypsy family in Seville, Spain, raised and steeped in flamenco tradition. By age 11, Diego Amador had mastered the guitar and several other musical instruments and was already playing drums in the group Pata Negra. With his deep preoccupation with music, he has evolved into a multi-instrumentalist, a composer, recording artist and producer.

Raimundo Amador is an experimental flamenco guitarist rooted in the flamenco tradition, yet open to other genres of a common “heart.” His career includes work with Björk, Enrique Morente, Antonio Flores, Mala Rodríguez, Tomatito and Remedios Amaya, among others. He worked with Camarón on his album La Leyenda del Tiempo. In 1995, he released his first solo album, Gerundina, a collaboration with legendary blues guitarist B.B. King.

In addition to these two live performances by Raimundo Amador, the film Papagordo: En Casa de Raimundo Amador will be featured in the Flamenco Documentary Film Series.

This concert is part of the Chicago Flamenco Festival 2012, presented by the Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with Arte y Vida Chicago and with the support of Old Town School of Folk Music, the Flamenco Arts Center, and the Ensemble Español Center for Spanish Dance & Music in residence at Northeastern Illinois University.
