ByWe continue our weeklong series about nuclear energy with a look at India. For years India wasn’t able to purchase components for nuclear reactors or nuclear fuel on the international market because it’s not a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The recent nuclear deal India struck with the U.S. changed all that. Sumit Ganguly, director of research at Indiana University’s Center of American and Global Security, will discuss the deal’s impact on India’s energy sector. And we’ll talk with Afghan politician, writer and human rights activist Malalai Joya, the first female parliamentarian elected to the National Assembly of Afghanistan. She was dismissed for publicly denouncing what she called “warlords and war criminals” in the Afghan parliament and for criticizing U.S. policy in Afghanistan.
