This week marks the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl (Chornobyl) nuclear disaster. We continue our series commemorating the event with Dr. Yuri Scherbak who was on the scene just moments after the explosion. He joins us from Kiev. Also, Dr. Daniel Hryhorczuk of the University of Illinois School of Public Health discusses his work. He’s spent the past 20 years researching the health effects of the disaster. And on Global Notes, pianist Malek Jandali puts a spin on the world’s oldest known notated music, which originates from his native Syria. And, we play listeners’ favorite Chernobyl-inspired tracks.
